10 WHCCD employees who accepted an early retirement package were honored at an event at the Tachi Palace in Lemoore. Eric Christenson, Melinda Olson, Etsel Barner, Tom Benedict, Darlene Georgatos, Mike Parker, Harold Wiest, Hang Phan, Minerva Brixey and Carlos Diniz were honored.

Lt. Col. John G. Cotter was serving at the Pentagon the day Al-Qaeda terrorists flew a Boeing 757 into the military complex. All 77 people on the flight were killed along with 125 people at the Pentagon. The California Air National Guard officer was the featured speaker at the WHCC 9/11 ceremony. Coalinga Police Chief Cal Minor also spoke and first responders and current and former members of the military were honored.

WHCL hosted a retirement luncheon honoring employees who opted for an early retirement package offered by the district. Melinda Olson, Eric Christenson and Tom Bendedict were on hand for the honors.

10 long-time WHCCD district employees accepted an early retirement package effective Aug. 31, 2009. We're going to miss Tom Benedict, Minerva Brixey, Harold Wiest, Carlos Diniz, Darlene Georgatos, Eric Christenson, Edsel Barner, Hang Phan and Mike Parker. They will be honored at several events. WHCC hosted a noontime reception on Aug. 26th.

Juan Sepulveda, director of tthe White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans,hosted members of the Central Valley Higher Education Consortium and community members for a town hall-style "Community Conversations" meeting in Fresno.
