Once again, we marked the opening of Formal Season at Yorkfield Farm, Sat 1-Oct, with the traditional Blessing of the Hounds, where Reverend Carol Waleryzak officiated. We dedicated this Hunt and Season in loving memory of honorary member, whipper-in, occasional huntsman, and longtime Field Secretary Arthur Williams, and to other four-legged friends we have lost this past year, including retired foxhound Whiskey Road Seldom, and Lauretta’s Angel.
The ceremony traces its roots to St. Hubert, patron saint of hunters who was born into nobility in 7th Century French Aquitaine. This annual tradition is a rite observed by hunts all over the world and going back many years. As Fall is now upon us, we usher in our formal season, with its more formal, traditional attire, plus longer and faster hunts as hound, horse, rider & hound are now fit & prepared.
