In 2000 Constanza Ceruti and I led an excpedition to excavate the looted site on the summit of Chani (5,896 m/19,344 ft) where looters had found an Inca mummy a century ago. Only scattered fragments left behind by looters were recovered.
Over a hundred artifacts were found in the summit platform, including statues, pottery, food items and textiles. A few images have been added of research in the laboratory at Catholic University and of the museum opened in 2004 in Salta.
The first expedition included two ascents, the first via the north ridge and reaching the site at ca. 6,200 m (later called Punta Ichu) and the 2nd reaching the summit and finding the a frozen Inca mummy (the "Ice Maiden".)

The Yawar Fiesta involves the capture and tying of a condor on a bull that is then used in a bullfight. The condor is traditionally believed by indigenous peoples to represent the mountain god and the fiesta relates to the fertility of the coming year. The first images are of the condor's capture, followed by normal bullfighting, then the condor is used,, followed by a parade and the two condors being let free.
