We hosted our fall open house for the public on Thursday evening, November 12th. This particular event featured a wonderful "Curriculum Fair," created by all of our teachers to show prospective parents and students exactly why our school is so different and so marvelous. Some students were on hand to help us showcase the school, and the teachers enjoyed chatting with parents and answering pertinent questions. Fourth graders sang "Fifty Nifty," some sixth graders dressed as Greek philosophers and presented their talks, and Student Ambassadors helped us as hosts and hostesses. It was a lovely event, and we are extremely proud of our faculty, staff, students...and administration!

The final day of the Williamsburg trip was spent at Shirley Plantation and at Yorktown. The students enjoyed gorgeous weather, the reenactment of our American soldiers' encampment, visiting a Colonial farm...and getting to know a turkey!

Mr. Kevin Miller captured the beauty of our fifth grade students dressed in their Colonial "finery" at their plantation dinner and dance. The children look like they stepped right out of the 18th century!

This wonderful album of Williamsburg memories was compiled entirely of photos taken by Mrs. Karin Wood. Wow! The photos in this album cover all four days of the trip.

Mrs. Karen Avery sweetly shared her great photos of this memorable trip, as well. We thank all of our camera-toting parents for adding to the Gallery and giving us a great "feel" for this excellent trip!

Park Maitland's fifth grade students had an incredible study visit to Williamsburg, VA and surrounding areas during the week of November 2, 2009. Many parents kindly sent photos for us to share; the first 81 in this album were taken by Mrs. Karin Wood, while the remainder were submitted by Mr. Kevin Miller. Enjoy!

We held two assemblies, one for grades K-4 through 2 and the other for grades 3-6. Our special guest was Olympic gold medalist in swimming, Mr. Rowdy Gaines! Rowdy spoke to the students about working hard to make your dreams come true. Many thanks go to swim coach, Kevin Meisel for making this assembly possible. Congratulations, too, to the many students who earned commendations and those who shared their own hard work with the school community.

The first skating party of the school year was loads of fun for students, friends, parents, and teachers! Many thanks go to Mrs. Sandy Andrew for sharing her great pix!

One beloved event that kicks off every new school year just right for the new sixth grade students is their overnight beach sleepover. It is such fun! We thank the teachers and staff members who graciously chaperoned -- Auer, Bonus, Farkash, Johnson, Kennedy, Larrimore, McAtee, Moon, Ventimiglia, and Colleen Finwall (who shared her wonderful beach home)!

In remembrance of September 11, 2001, Park Maitland students wore red, white, and blue and held two assemblies. The first assembly was for children in K-4 through grade 2; the second was for third-sixth graders. Both were patriotic and very meaningful! We love our beautiful country, and we all love being free! The musical, "Grease" (version rewritten for middle school performers) was performed on Friday evening, May 29th at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. What a wonderful show! The excitement backstage was electric! The students hustled into their costumes, sat for makeup and hairstyling, and waited excitedly in the "Green Room." They were ready for the curtain to rise on our 2009 Park Maitland show..."Grease!"

The sixth grade students were the featured artists in a special Gallery Opening at the Maitland Art Center on Friday evening, May 1st, 2009. The show was entitled, "A Park Maitland Perspective"...oils on canvas. Mrs. Sandy Bonus, the students' art teacher, was extremely proud to show their beautiful work.

The Mother's Day Tea held on Friday, May 1, was a very special day for K5 students and their Mothers (and a few Dads and Grandmothers!). More photos will be added next week. Hats off to the K5 team for planning such a special event!

The annual "Festival of Nations" is a highlight of the first grade year. The children learn about other cultures and celebrate their traditions. We thank our wonderful parents for helping make this event a huge success.

Third graders had a beautiful day at the Marine Discovery Center. We learned a lot, too!!

Fourth graders, chaperones, and staff had a wonderful day at Kennedy Space Center!

The K-4 students (and some of their teachers) entertained parents and friends with a darling springtime show, "It's Not Easy Being a Bunny!" Kudos to drama teacher, Ms. Darby Ballard, music teacher, Mrs. Susan Davis, and their fellow team members for preparing the children so beautifully for their performance!

Our 6th graders and many of their parents had a wonderful time in Washington D.C.

What a delightful group of young ladies and gentlemen and a perfect ending to our Manners Class! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and then had fun dancing!

4th grade students went to St. Augustine on December 12. We had chilly weather but a great time.

Third grade students celebrated on Tuesday, November 25th with feasting, dancing, and the wearing of special "Native American" style clothing! They enjoyed hearing about early Native American life from Mr. Jim Sawgrass, who each year sets up an intriguing encampment right on our campus! Ms. Cindy Dawson, social studies teacher, was pleased to invite Mrs. Nat Garvin, former Dean of Students, as the children's special guest this year. Enjoy photos by Amber West and M.M. Bowen.
