Fleur de Lis Garden Society members and invited guests threw the mud balls we made at our January meeting. What a great day with the kids and everyone went home with daffodils.

La Grange members recently worked with children at Lutheran Pre-School on planting seeds.

Sprig and Twig Garden Club in East Central District held their monthly meeting at 'Church of the Master' in Florissant MO on March 22nd. They were happy to see a few members that had been unable to get to meetings recently. President Boelhauf gave a good explanation of the duties of the Staging Chairmen and her committee for a Flower Show. Member Melinda Schuster presented a program on 'Show Me Butterflies'. Giving us information on butterflies we might see in our MO. Backyards. Refreshments were provided by Helen Tryon and Gloria Ford.

Fleur de Lis Garden Society had dinner with a girl scout troop in Wentzville.

On March 12, 2011 the Centralia Flower & Garden Club hosted another outstanding program at the public library as part of our continuing series of free programs for our Garden Center Project. Kevin Alferman, representing Songbird Station and Gold Crest Distributing LLC, presented a fun, thorough program on specific birds, their foods, nesting needs, feeder preferences, brood information, and more. He brought many examples of feeders and feed that were passed around for everyone to see. At the end of his presentation, attendees were invited to shop at a discount and many went home with new things. Co-chairs for the Garden Center Project are Arlene Grace and Marjorie Motley. Arlene had a drawing for 4 gourd houses which she made, and Kevin donated a Birds of Missouri Field Guide.

We had a "Horticulture Workshop" to get ready to display horticulture at the upcoming Mid-Central District Flower Show May 2 - 3, 2011 at Wine Country Gardens in Defiance, Mo.

The Fulton Garden Club hosted an artificial flower show at the Presbyterian Manor and at Churchill Terrace on March 7, 2011. There were 26 entries. Residents of each facility voted for their favorite arrangements in the categories of extra large, large, medium and small divisions. The first place winner was Barbara Buschert in the extra large division at both facilities. At the Manor Betty Hardin won first in the large, Linda Houston in the medium division and Joan Sampson in the small division. At Churchill Terrace Betty Hardin won first in the large division, Marta Carpenter in the medium division and Helen West in the small division

East Central District participated in the Home & Garden Show at America's Center in St. Louis.

Sprig and Twig Garden Club monthly meeting Feb. 22nd was held at Church of the Master in Florissant MO. A short business meeting was held with news of the up coming Home and Garden Flower Show being a hot topic. Our program for the evening was given by Deborah Mintert titled 'Who's taking my space'. We learned of plants that invade our yards by accident and even ones that we have purchased that become a nuance in a very short time. Debbie also gave information on how to eradicate them. Refreshments were provided by Linda Boelhauf and Carey Lueker.

Fleur de Lis Garden Society members and guests toured the Herbarium at MoBOT and had lunch at Bravo in West County Mall.

The Fulton Garden Club met on Thursday, February 10 at the Callaway County Library Friends Meeting Room. We had has our speaker, Mr. Bob McConnell, who has a B.S. in Horticulture and who owns the McConnell Nursery in Columbia, Missouri which is located off interstate 70. He gave a lecture on “Preparing Your Soil.” He was very informative and entertaining. He answered many of the members’ questions. Betty Hardin, Past President prepared a gift basket for Mr. McConnell. This was presented to Mr. McConnell by our current president, Betty Steinrauf. After the lecture we had a business meeting and then refreshments were served by the hostesses, Alma Hoffmann, Shirley Berry and Sharon King. A good time was had by all.

Fleur de Lis Garden Society members cleaned out the bluebird houses that were built last September by Barat Academy students. The park is in St. Charles County.

The design this month was "Winter Wonderland". A miniature design less than 5". Ruth Lacy was our Accredited Master Flower Show Judge this month.

The Fulton Junior Garden Club met after school on February 17th. They prepared their cups for planting by putting stickers and their names on their cups. They then all went out side. (It was about 70 degrees) They placed rocks and soil in their cups and each planted one paper white in their cups. To water them they all got a handful of snow and placed it on top of their cups. How often can than happen? They then assembles to get blindfolded and play the animal game. They paired off as different animals and then had to connect with the rest of their species by sound. The kids had a great time.

Marie Pasley, Master Gardener, gives a program on "Steps to Desinging a Landscape". Dorothy Kaiser demonstrates a Multi-Rhythmic design.

Fleur de Lis Garden Society met at the St. Charles Police Department and worked on their Garden Therapy project for St. Roberts Adult Day Care in St. Charles. Decorated flower pots will be created by Alzheimer's patients to take home.
